September 29, 2015

There were a couple of bigger projects today that took up a larger part of my time. One of them being the Clash of the Associations. It's going to be an event where all the different student cultural associations play team games together. The other was the acoustic cafe. That one didn't take as much time, but just a lot of fiddling with it. It's not done yet, but it's getting there.

I started and finished the Flu clinic poster and web banner. The idea they wanted was "Earn your stripe" the stripe refers to a bandaid on the arm.  Kind of like a military stripe I guess. This is what I came up with:

September 25, 2015

I finished off the inside of the Christmas Card for the support center. I painted the outside of the card a few months ago, and we were just waiting on them to tell us what they wanted the inside to say. I also worked on a poster for the "Blazen Dance". They had a silhouette of two dancers they wanted for the design. It seems a bit pointless to submit something to a design department, and then limit their design options like that. But it happens all the time, and I don't anticipate it stopping soon.

September 24, 2015

Today was mainly spent preparing a presentation for our department. Another intern and I presented it together. The support center requested a few changes to the Lost and Found Sale, and I made those and sent them off. I made lots of little changes to web banners as well. Here is one of those.

September 23, 2015

Today I made the fliers and web banner for the lost and found sale campaign. The support center really wanted Waldo for their design, but we can't do that because of copyrights. So I made this little guy to look similar, but different enough. I also made a few other web banner.

I mainly worked on finishing the lost and found sale campaign today. Here is the final 111x17 poster.

Today I worked more on the "Where's Waldo" poster. The client saw it loved it, which is good because a lot of time has gone into that. I also helped come up with some ideas for the Outdoor Resource Center remodel. We also each drew Phil, one of the other designers, on sticky notes.

First Week of the internship

This post is will be covering today, as well as the days earlier this week that I didn't post on the blog. I am working as a designer and art director for Student Services and Activities Communications (SSACOMM) at BYU- Idaho. I mainly create posters and web advertisements for campus events. I will also be doing some video editing for various projects.

This week I have been working on a huge kiosk-sized (44"40") for the Lost and Found sale. They want it to have a Where's Waldo theme. I proposed the idea of drawing a recognizable part of the school in the style of the Where's Waldo books, and putting the lost and found items all over it, just like the books.

Here is my progress so far. The first image is the line work I have of the Taylor quad. The second is the design for the text on the poster, and kiosk versions of the advertisement (the image will be replaced with my final illustration)
